Did you know that there are three different types of public speaking?
Speaking to Inform
This type of public speaking involves imparting information and sharing knowledge. Examples of informative speeches include business presentations, class presentations, seminars, lectures etc. This type of speech should be short and relevant, because long winded descriptions and rambling speeches can bore your audience.
BONUS: Remember, what you say is not as important as what your audience understands and takes away from your speech. Speaking to Persuade
When you make a speech to persuade, you’re trying to influence the opinion of your listener. This type of speech is meant to convince and influence your audience, so it is essential that you build your arguments well and show your enthusiasm. If you‘re passionate about your views, your eagerness will be contagious and you can sway even the staunchest of your opponents.
BONUS: Remember, in the course of trying to argue your point, you must never be hurtful or rude; you must always be respectful and use logic and reasoning, and at times you may also appeal to people’s emotions. Speaking to Entertain
Making a speech to entertain means using humor, anecdotes, or perhaps adding a personal touch to what you say. This type of speech is usually addressed to a small audience, for example at a wedding, a toast, a graduation or retirement party etc. You can add emotions and offer a touching tribute to make this kind of speech effective.
BONUS: Remember, if you are addressing a large audience with type of speech, personalizing it may be difficult and a little intimidating, but don’t hold back due to the fear of a negative response from your audience.
